An Open Letter to Manufacturers

Dear Manufacturer,
Please make your product lines simple and easy to choose amongst with a good, better, best approach. I don't want to agonize over which product to get, I want a simple choice to make. I want to make an informed choice to balance features and price. If practical, I only want to make one choice, whether to purchase the product or not. Accordingly, please reduce the range of products to the smallest set possible. When there isn't enough differentiation available in features or price, one item may be sufficient. Please make sure that each product steps up in equal amounts of features and price. I don't want to feel ripped off selecting features I consider essential for a price much higher than their cost. Nor do I want to have to pay for a large amount of features I don't want to get those that I do. In general, I find that I either want the top of the line product and can live with the price or I want to reduce the price and give up features I can live without or don't need. I don't ever want to be confronted with the choice of paying more and getting less or trading one feature for another, even if it's just one thing.
