It's taken a long time, but I think downloadable digital music has hit an acceptable point now. iTunes dropped DRM in 2009 and in a somewhat quiet way made a subtle change in the middle of last year that has a significant impact. As of June 2011, iTunes now allows you to redownload anything you've previously purchased. With all the little tweaks and changes along the way and the size and staying power of iTunes, paying for a song there is an acceptable version to a hard copy on CD. Good thing too as compact discs will likely cease new production within a years time from now.
